I went to Vancouver consulate in Jun 2006 and had very good experience. My appointment was at 8.00 am and I was out of the consulate by 9.00 am. The officer asked me which company I work for and my job description. No questions were asked to my wife. I have also been to Toronto and Montreal consulates in last 3 years for the visa stamping; however Vancouver staff was most friendly. I got my passport the next day.
However as the process has changed recently, it might take longer to get the passports back. Please don't carry anything other than your wallet and documents and that too in a folder; NOT a bag. In case they don't let you in, there's a small cafe on the opposite side of the road. You can pay some money to the guy or buy something later and he would allow to keep your stuff there.

All,
Did not want to create any sensational news, but this is what I gathered from speaking to an IO. I had applied for my EAD on Jan 25th and havent received any updates. So, I called the NSC customer service and an IO informed me that I need to check back with them in another 60 days if no decision is made by that time. When I said that it would be 6 months by that time, the IO said that "that's right. Each IO has about 500 applications on their desk and it will take some time to clear these off"
Just wanted to update everyone so that all the June/July filers can file appropriately.
Again, mine could be an isolated case. So, please dont panic::))

I just realised that there is the wrong expiration date on my i-94 when I came back from a visit to India in Feb 2006.
The officer did not put the date according to the 797 which expires in 2007 .He put the expiration date as per the visa stamp.
My visa in my passport has also expired in April 2006.
My company is filing for 1485 and the lawyer just noticed it .
What are my options ?

We all know that we are able to file 485 on July and we got EAD due to IV efforts. Which in turn helping us to get a 600$ rebate for the spouse (Some plan to spend the money).. Can we make a pledge here that we will contribute a certain % to our organization? The % can be your choice. At least this % can help this site up and running� If the moderator decide that this is not a good idea please close this thread.

If she has been out of USA during her 6 years of H-1B, she can use that period for her H1B extension. It can give her an extra breathing space.
Also, for 180 days, she can stay in USA but I am not sure if these 180 days is from the date she last time entered in USA or from the day her visa ends.
I suggest you to consult a good attorney. It is suggested to spend some time and money on attorney and help her stay out of trouble.

Same here, september 11 notice date case transferred to TSC, EAD and AP recieved for self and spouse but no FP yet.
Some say it is not an issue, some say it can be an issue
but you never know with USCIS... anyways its more than 5 months...... that got me worried....

I just spoke to an Immigration Officer about the status of my pending I-485 application using InfoPass, and all she said was "it is waiting for a visa number". She seemed to be very ignorant of general USCIS regs and laws, but she called somebody and this is the answer she came up with.
My category is EB2-India with PD of Feb 2004 which is current for June. So, my question to all the gurus here is: WTF does this mean "waiting for a visa number"? i told her that my PD is current, so there is no need for waiting, but then she told me that my application was received on July 2nd 2007 and I need to wait. I tried explaining that 485 receipt date has no relation to PD, but it was a lost cause.
Any comments from the wise on this board?

as far as I know, since she had H1B already with her previous company, she can get a new H1B right now. She doesn't have to wait for Oct 2007. However, the time she spent on H4 is also used against her H1B time since H1 and H4 are both H visas and everybody gets 6 years in total. You should use this info at yor own risk. Double check with a lawyer. Maybe other members can confirm my response as well...

I think Lawyers have a system where they can send emails to the service centers in a particular format, the receiving software at USCIS automatically parses the email and assigns the case to officers.
Or, if it has been a long time since it is current try contacting the Ombudsman.

No disrespect but , 400$ biweekly seems ok to me ...It depends on how you are employed , If you are working on percentage basis then companies may charge full insurance to you , If you are employed its a different case .
I agree - I used to work for desi employer before and used to pay around that much for insurance at least for few months until my wife started working and we moved into her insurance.
Working om percentage basis with desi employer does look good if your billing rate is good and you are constantly having projects without any breaks.
When you work on percentage you must remember that payroll tax, benefits, costs towards visa, GC expenses and any other costs associated - the employer tends to deduct from your percentage and will only share the profits and will not take responsibility for losses.
If you join a decent company with proper HR and accounts department - you wont have these issues.

USCIS receives around 7.5 million applications a year and mistakes happen. Cut them some slack here. Bad luck to OP. Contact USCIS and see what happens and please post here after your issue is resolved. Others will benefit from your experience.

TOI is the champion of these kind of nonsense, after S.1932 was passed by the senate they published an article saying 'Good news, A bill for Green card increase, H1B increase ..... have been passed by U.S. lawmakers' with no mention of house hurdle etc. I fail to digest that the reporter who is writing the article doesn't know, after the bills get passed in the Senate they go to Congress. But it's TOI they can do that.

I actually think the straight shot in this case is very nice in its own right!
Regarding the submissions so far: they all are good, and I don't know if I can add much, but I did have a bit of a go with the image (using the PSD you posted for Nick, as I don't have any RAW conversion capability here).
With those who have previously posted verions, I like the clarity of Josh's, and I think his probably has the best balance of 'sharpness' for this subject. However, I did feel his flower could have done with a bit more local contrast.
I think AjP and Freddy have got the contrast on the bloom the best so far. If I had to nitpick, I suppose I found AjP's leaves a bit bright for me, and Freddy's a bit dark (though the darkened leaves did set off the bloom very nicely!).
I went for background brightness about in the middle of these two versions (and thus I think ended up with a version fairly close to the one in your original post - though with somewhat less clipping on the highlight side).
For my go, my approach was similar to Josh's - with the addition of Levels:
(Input 1 0.95 241
Output 0 255)
with a saturation boost (about 25%, except for greens)
and a contrast mask (opacity about 50%).
